And how would I know this? I’m almost finished with a Yoga Teacher Training that has been certified as an “RYT-200” (Registered Yoga Teacher-200 hours) course. Coincidentally, I started this training about the same time my assistant, Carter, started the curriculum to obtain his Utah Real Estate license. Here are a few differences:
REALTOR Training: Carter can do the entire 120-hour coursework to become a REALTOR online. I am spending 130 hours with my fellow students plus another 40 hours practicing yoga at a studio. Ironically, in my research for this blog, I discovered that the Yoga Alliance is going to make the teacher training process even more rigorous starting next year.
Yoga Teacher Training: An inexperienced yoga instructor can potentially harm students by pushing them into compromising poses, and make someone feel like they wasted $20 by taking a boring or irritating class. An inexperienced REALTOR can put their clients’ earnest money and home equity at risk, costing their client thousands of dollars.
REALTOR Training: Real estate school, licensing and testing will cost approximately $1,000.
Yoga Teacher Training: I paid $2,500 for yoga teacher training.
There are Over 16,000 Real Estate Agents in the State of Utah
The point of this blog is to inform my readers that getting a real estate license is pretty easy and inexpensive. Almost anyone can do it. In fact, there were 16,741 licensed REALTORS in the state of Utah as of this 2017 report.
What is rare is a person with the discipline and drive to consistently learn and better herself. In 2015, I was named a top real estate agent in Utah. This year, I attended 4 real estate conferences, plus another 10 hours of continuing education. I am constantly reading books to increase my level of expertise. There is a big difference between my skill level and that of someone who just got their real estate license.
When I start teaching yoga, I know I will not be as good an instructor as those who have been teaching for years.
I hope that when you hire a professional to help you to acquire or sell one of your largest assets, you will do some research and find a knowledgeable professional. Anyone can be licensed. Not everyone can be an experienced professional who consistently ups her game.
