Lavish swimming pools are status symbols in some parts of the country but make little sense in
a mountain town with a short summer. Nevertheless, some of Park City’s finest homes have
swimming pools. While private home theaters, gyms and sports bars have been around for a
number of years, there are a surprising number of new trends, many inspired by post-pandemic
lifestyles.
- Fitness enthusiasts who take their on-mountain sports and private gym workouts
seriously realized that they needed a better space for their visiting massage therapists.
A home spa with separate massage room is a much desired and well used amenity.
- Cold plunge pools are believed to have mental and physical benefits. These are
becoming more common in private homes. Many self-help gurus, including Tony
Robbins, have made private plunge pools a status symbol.
- Similar to cold plunge pools, infrared saunas are also believed to provide health
benefits. These are often used in tandem with cold plunge pools.
- Wine cellars are not new to the luxury home market, but they are growing larger to hold
massive wine collections. Many include tasting rooms.
- Water softeners and filtration systems, including reverse osmosis systems, have been a
Park City mainstay for many years due to our naturally hard water. As luxury
homeowners have become more health conscious, purified drinking water has become
a higher priority.
- Today’s luxury homeowner wants floor to ceiling walls of glass and disappearing sliding
doors to showcase the beautiful mountain views and create a seamless integration with
the natural environment. These homes are much more expensive to build and require
precise engineering.
- For golf lovers who wish to practice even when temperatures are below freezing, golf
simulators are the next best thing to being there. And they give players the opportunity
to experience courses all over the world.
- Executives can run their companies from almost anywhere in the world and likewise
media commentators, podcasters and influencers can broadcast from anywhere. A
soundproof office with a green screen creates a flawless transition from recreation to
work and back again.
- The base of Park City’s ski resorts is 7,000 feet, but ski in-out homes can be located as
high as 9.000 feet elevation. Those arriving from sea level who wish to make a speedy
transition to higher altitudes are pumping oxygen into their homes, especially in the
bedrooms. This makes for a more restful night’s sleep and less chance of altitude
sickness.
- We are seeing more luxury homes built with four to ten car garages. These garages
usually have storage for multi-generational skis, snowshoes, and all manner of mountain
toys. They also allow owners to store their winter and summer vehicles (think Range
Rover and Porsche convertible), along with their prized car collections.
- A trend that seems to be gaining in popularity is dual bathrooms in the primary suite.
Could this be the secret to a happy marriage?
- Luxury homeowners who are concerned about the environment are increasingly
choosing eco-friendly construction materials and smart-home technology. This includes
the installation of solar panels.
What do you think? Are some of these trends over the top lavish living or do they make perfect
sense? If you had unlimited funds to build the home of your dreams, which would you include?
