Skiing past the beautiful ski in, ski out homes at The Colony at White Pine Canyon is one of the pleasures of skiing The Canyons side of Vail’s Park City Mountain Resort. It’s one of Park City’s finest gated communities, and skiing is the only way you will get behind the gates of this private enclave to view these magnificent estates. There is a reason why many celebrities and high net worth owners choose to make their Park City home at The Colony.
10 Reasons to Love the Colony at White Pine Canyon
10. Privacy
The Colony is a gated ski in, ski out community known for its large homesites. The Colony is approved for 274 homesites among 4,600 acres of pristine high alpine terrain. Approximately 90% of the land is preserved as open space. Homesites average more than 5 acres. Trust me when I say that if you do not have a reason to get behind the gates at The Colony, you will not be allowed into the community.
9. Proximity
The Colony is located half-way between the stores and restaurants at Kimball Junction (4 miles) and Park City’s Historic Main Street (5 miles), and approximately 35 miles from Salt Lake City International Airport. It is also in the Park City School District.
Each homesite has a designated building envelope, roughly one-half acre in size. This is where owners may construct their residence, a separate guest house or an accessory building. The remainder of the lot is preserved as open space.
7. Single Track
The Colony is connected to over 400 miles of single-track trails, which its residents enjoy throughout summer and fall. The acclaimed 26-mile “Mid-Mountain Trail” runs through The Colony.
6. Breathtaking Views
At The Colony, homes are nestled among lush groves of aspen trees, rolling meadows, and sparkling streams. It is like living in a National Park. Although the colony feels “out there”, there is plenty of infrastructure, with over 26 miles of paved roads, with all utilities located underground.
5. Established Luxury
While it’s nice to get in on a project from the beginning, decades of construction can wear on you. The Colony developers commenced work on The Colony at White Pine Canyon Master Plan in 1992. The first homesites were released in 1998. The developer is currently selling Phase 5 of the development.
4. Your Own Gondola
The Quicksilver Gondola is located in Phase 4E of The Colony. This gondola connects the Canyons side of the mountain with Park City. The gondola drops off guests at the Miner’s Camp restaurant.
3. Canyons Village
Canyons Village is poised for a complete re-development. The high end Pendry hotel (Montage brand) will be complete a year from now, along with a new village with shops, bars, and restaurants, and a ski beach. The Colony owners will be able to ski from their homes into Canyons Village for lunch or après ski.
As a Colony homeowner, skiing begins and ends at the front door. In fact, these ten lifts are located within The Colony:
- Tombstone
- 9990
- Peak 5
- Day Break
- Dreamscape
- Dreamcatcher
- Flat Iron
- Timberline
- Iron Mountain
- Quicksilver Gondola (the 8-passenger gondola connection that makes Park City the largest ski resort in the U.S.)
1. There’s Still Time
The best part about The Colony is that there’s still time to own a piece of this slice of heaven for yourself. About 70% of the 275 total homesites are spoken for. This type of luxury does not come cheap. The average list price for single family homes at The Colony is well over $6 million.
Some of Park City’s finest homes are located at The Colony at White Pine Canyon. I have had the pleasure of touring many of these homes recently with buyers. Since COVID-19, the large homes located at The Colony have attracted many out of state buyers looking for their own private homestead on the mountain.
