Sledding in the Park City Area
Every Park City family owns a few sleds, and they are cheap enough to buy even if you are in town only for a few days. Once purchased, you can use your sled indefinitely and there are several local hills where you will find kids sledding all winter. This is an inexpensive way to wear your kids out, as they have to climb back up the snowy hill after sliding down. But sledding isn’t just for kids – we took my father sledding when he was in his 70s and he loved it.
Ecker Hill
Take Pinebrook Road and turn left into the second park after the tennis courts. This is the hill where we took my father. Be mindful of the altitude as some grandparents can be more sensitive to it.
Park City Library
If you are looking at the Park City Library building, just to the right is a small sledding hill. This one is great for little kids.
Park City Ice Arena
This hill is adjacent to the Park City Ice Arena at Quinn’s Junction Sports Complex.
Iron Mountain
This one is accessed at the Iron Mountain trailhead. Parking may be an issue as there are only a few spots. The trail is steep, so this hill is not good for younger kids.
Mountain Dell Golf Course
This sledding hill is located at the public Mountain Dell Golf Course just west of Park City off I-80. It is considered the longest sledding hill in the area.
Use common sense and don’t sled at the ski resorts where it is prohibited. There have been a few fatal accidents when sledders slammed into lift poles.
Tubing in Park City & The Heber Valley
If you are looking for an easier way up the hill and a thrilling ride down, then you should check out one of the Park City area’s two winter tubing parks. At a tubing park, you ride a conveyor belt, known as a magic carpet, up the hill. Tubing is a family-friendly activity that is just as fun for tots as for grandparents.

Woodward Park City
Woodward has seven tubing lanes, 1,200 feet of track, and offers two-hour tubing sessions. It is also open in the evening for tubing under the lights. Advanced reservations are strongly recommended.
Soldier Hollow in Midway
Soldier Hollow boasts the longest tubing lanes in Utah, with 1,200-foot sliding lanes. Tubing is available in two-hour sessions. Advanced reservations are strongly recommended.

Sledding and tubing are fun winter activities if you need a break from skiing (and sledding has the advantage of being free!). Have you made some great memories skiing or tubing? Tell us about them below!
