Park City’s stellar nonprofits would be nothing without one key ingredient: you.
Gracious donations from the community are vital to success. The sheer number of nonprofits as well as the diverse work that they do demonstrates a community that is devoted to its people and its places.
Park City has over 50 nonprofits that serve the community in four categories. As Live PC Give PC (the “give back day to our community”) is almost upon us, I urge you to consider a donation to a nonprofit of your choice. I’ve highlighted a few of the more renowned organizations in each category, but there are so many wonderful entities it’s hard to cover them all.
Protect & Play
The “Protect and Play” group of nonprofits might be the most visible of all of the categories. Not only do these nonprofits protect the natural resources around us, they work hard to make sure that we can enjoy and access the mountains, trails and waterways in our own backyard. If you’ve moved to Park City, this is probably something near and dear to your heart as it is mine. I appreciate how the community comes together to save land as it is clearly a value we all share.
- Mountain Trails
- Summit Land Conservatory
- Recycle Utah
- Swaner Preserve & EcoCenter
Educate & Empower
The “Education and Empower” area of impact serves the families of Summit County. These nonprofits include sheltering and supporting survivors of abuse, closing the achievement gap in schools and providing high-quality education programs. These folks strive to strengthen households and improve opportunities for the women, children and families of Park City.
- Peace House
- Park City Education Foundation
- Big Brothers Big Sisters of Utah
- Community for Children’s Justice
Caring for Each Other
The “Caring for Each Other” category includes organizations that work to strengthen the livelihoods of all who live in Park City, even cats and dogs. These programs aim to assist people through housing, mental health, and outdoor programs. One of my favorites, the Nuzzles and Co. rescue organization (formerly Furburbia) is a no-kill rescue ranch that facilitates adoption of pets.
- Christian Center of Park City
- Connect Summit County
- National Ability Center
- Nuzzles & Co.
Uplift & Inspire
“Uplift and Inspire” nonprofit organizations focus on the impact of the arts in our area. Art, music, dance and film have all found deep roots in Park City and these nonprofits help make them accessible to everyone. I am a proud donor to Mountain Town Music as Park City’s outdoor concerts are one of my favorite past times!
- Mountain Town Music
- Egyptian Theater
- Kimball Art Center
- KPCW
For more information about Park City’s nonprofit community and ways to donate, see the Park City Community Foundation’s Giving Guide. The Foundation has specialized giving programs such as the Women’s Giving Fund, grant-making initiatives, the Live PC Give PC day of giving (on November 9th this year), and more.
This is just a small snap shot of the great work going on in our town. If you have lived in Park City long enough, you will without a doubt be impacted by one or more of these areas, a direct product of a deeply committed nonprofit community.
