If you live in Park City or are familiar with all manner of things to do, then you have probably been to High West Saloon on Historic Main Street. Maybe you have ventured over to Blue Sky Ranch to visit High West’s Distillery. But unless you read travel magazines, you may not know that in addition to the Distillery, there is now an Auberge Resort Collection Hotel located at Blue Sky Ranch in Wanship.
The Auberge Resort Collection involves 19 properties, some very well known, like the Hotel Jerome in Aspen, Solage in Napa, and the Mauna Lani in Hawaii. It’s surreal that there is an Auberge Resort in Wanship, Utah.
I had the pleasure of visiting the property in August for an amazing 6-course wine pairing dinner. I also met the owners, who were clearly tickled to see their dream finally open for guests. Some guests in resident from both Manhattan and Los Angeles joined us for dinner. These couples were obviously looking for an oaisis in the mountains, which they certainly found at Blue Sky.
Set on a 3,500 acre working ranch, the architecture is organic. The décor is contemporary, but warm, with earth tones and natural elements such as wood, stone, glass, leather, polished concrete, marble and slate, much of it locally sourced. The vibe is relaxed. There is an amazing restaurant called Yuta, which is open to the public for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Yuta has an expansive patio, bar, lounge and private dining room, and features farm-to-table cuisine provided by Blue Sky’s onsite farm. The restaurant is helmed by James Beard Foundation award-winning Executive Chef Galen Zamarra, who was recruited away from two highly acclaimed restaurants in New York City.
There are only 46 rooms with 3 types of accommodations: the Sky Lodge, which is located in the property’s main building, Earth Suites, and Creek Houses. Designed as an ideal retreat for families, friends, and couples, the rooms and suites are filled with natural light thanks to floor-to-vaulted ceiling windows that open onto private outdoor spaces.
The Edge Spa at Blue Sky is a sanctuary. Perched on the side of a dramatic precipice overlooking Alexander Creek, the Edge Spa has 5 treatment rooms and a serene relaxation pool overlooking Alexander Creek, for guests to enjoy before or after their treatments.
Mindfulness pursuits, such as yoga and guided meditation are practiced in the Movement Studio or out in a remote natural alpine location. Guests may also experience fly fishing, championship-caliber shooting clays, hiking, biking, outdoor yoga and guided meditation, al fresco art classes, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing on the property, as well as downhill skiing at nearby Park City Mountain Resort.
I’m excited to present this local treasure to readers of my blog. I will certainly return to Yuta at The Lodge at Blue Sky. Maybe I’ll be lucky enough to escape there for an overnight retreat!
