Art in Park City is not just restricted to our Historic Main Street. From sculptures and photography to the Kimball Art Center and the Annual Arts Fest (one of our top summer activities), art in Park City is very much alive. As a matter of fact, Park City has more art galleries than Aspen and Vail combined, for a grand total of 25.
Kimball Art Center
The Kimball Art Center has been the cornerstone of all things arts in Park City since 1976. An incredible institution that houses an exhibit space and education facility, the center provides art programs to the community. Exhibits, art talks and classes happen throughout the year to people of all ages and abilities. The exhibit space is free and open to the public. Their largest event is the Park City Kimball Arts Festival that is held each summer. It brings some 225 jury-selected artists from around the country as well as over 55,000 people to enjoy this wonderful festival, all on Park City’s own Main Street.
Gallery Stroll
A wonderful introduction to the Park City arts scene is the umbrella organization, the Park City Gallery Association or PCGA. Each month the PCGA features 20 art galleries on a free gallery stroll during the last Friday of every month, mostly located around and just beyond the historic Old Town district. Park City boasts many types of art galleries, including photography, sculpture, paintings and mixed media. From the seasoned art collector to the interested novice, anyone can find a piece of wonderful work in a friendly local gallery.
Ripple Effect
Park City’s art momentum is spreading throughout the county. Artwork from local artists can be found everywhere from the county fair in Coalville to the small arts and gifts gallery in Kamas, Artique. The 2017 Summit Arts Showcase is a juried exhibit of local artists that features local food and entertainment. The Showcase is in Oakley, Utah and produced by the Park City Summit County Arts Council. The Arts Council is a major advocate and supporter of the arts in Park City and Summit County. The Arts Council has also created the art exhibit at Summit County’s annual Fair which features paintings and photography from local artists. This is just one of the many events supported by the Arts Council.
I like the Park City Summit County Arts Council‘s website for a comprehensive calendar of all the art events in Park City. You can sign up on their website to receive their monthly newsletter so you will always know what is happening in and around Park City. From art galleries to outdoor sculpture gardens, concerts and theater, art in and around Park City enhances our lifestyle and is one more reason why Park City is such a great place to live or to visit.
