This view is your reward for climbing to the top of the Gorgoza Trail. The trail begins just above the pond. The pond is a big reason why my dogs, Kit and Sheriff, and I love this trail. To get to the trail, drive towards the Gorgoza Tubing Park. You will see a small parking lot just east of the tubing park. Easy parking is another reason to love a trail in Park City.
Everyone in the parking lot has at least one dog and/or a mountain bike. The mountain bikers seem pretty patient with dogs at this trail. Perhaps it’s because they are outnumbered. Once I open the door to the truck, the dogs head straight for the pond. If they are lucky, there are already dogs there chasing after balls. My adopted Lab/German Shorthair mix, Kit, usually jumps right into the water. She has a special stealth swim for when she is chasing after the ducks. Otherwise, she does her dog paddle to swim from one side of the pond to the other.
Even Sheriff, the German Shepherd, overcomes his breeding as a guard dog and jumps in the pond to chase balls. It is great exercise and they love the social aspect of playing with other dogs.
Once they tire of swimming, we head up to the trail.
The trail winds uphill for about 20 minutes, depending on how fast you are walking. It’s a great place for me to clear my head or think about creative ideas for my business. The dogs always run ahead of me and then wait for me to catch up. They “mark” spots as we climb to the top and even though the trail splits off in a few sections, they always go the right way.
As I write this blog, the trail is beginning to brighten with the colors of fall. It’s very beautiful. It usually takes us a half hour to get to the dead end. We always pass the “beware of moose” sign, but luckily have not encountered any on the trail. We did see a moose by the pond one day.
The entire loop takes us about an hour. I enjoy seeing the dogs so happy. I also like being in an area that has a full cell phone signal and is not “remote” in the least (although it feels that way), just in case of emergency. I am a city girl and can’t help but think that way.
If you own a dog or even if you just enjoy watching dogs play, I hope you will give this trail a try. I’m sure you won’t be disappointed.
